
The law defines a crime victim as a person who has been offended by a crime, or afamily member which an offense caused his death. The law further stipulates that in order to be entitled to these rights, the offense has to be a misdemeanor (ie imprisonment for three months to three years) or a crime (ie, an offense for which imprisonment is three years or more), and that is not a traffic offense. There are additional conditions in the law, such as the offense being committed in Israel or the proceedingws are handled in a court in Israel. What are the rights available to the victims of the offense? First, and above all, the law provides that the victim of the offense is entitled to protection from the suspect, defendant or convicted person, as well as from his family, agents or associates. In addition, the offense victim is entitled to protection by order of the court against those entities.
